Cut-Off Brim Hats Are Fashion's Newest Wave
The cut-off brim hat is shaping up to be one of the biggest trends heading into 2025, with underground and high-fashion brands alike embracing this bold look. Emerging designer Freddie Frances has been credited starting the first cut-off brim hat, dropping his first one in 2023. "Dad hats covered up too much of my face, so they would overpower my face. Originally I just did it for myself," Frances told Lowheads.
Frances removed half of the brim entirely to create a distressed, edgy aesthetic that pushes traditional fashion boundaries. Martine Rose followed suit and helped popularize the "cut-off brim" design as it taps into the trend of deconstruction, influenced heavily by brands like Balenciaga, while taking it to the next level by completely cutting half the brims hat.
Following Martine Rose and Freddie Frances' lead, Playboi Carti has also dropped "Hat Box Set" which has the same style of th half cut off brim set to release before April 2025. Prototypes and Joshua Jamal have also joined the trend, incorporating one-off cut-off brim hats into their recent collections, further signaling that this style is on the rise.
As 2025 comes closer, be sure to be on the lookout as this style is just catching on and will blow up in 2025.
